I’m honored to have been interviewed for an article about midwives and doulas in the Josephine Magazine publication out of St. Joseph, MO. ?
“Beth West, a doula with Agape Birth Services in Atchison, Kansas, meets with women before they go into labor to get to know them and to understand their vision for their baby’s birth. She advocates for the woman and her partner during labor.
“‘It’s more of giving the families the encouragement to ask the questions they should ask and remember what they want to do in the various stages of birth,’ West explains. Doulas do not do anything medical (no vital signs, interpreting monitors, checking cervixes, etc.) so their focus can be on the emotional needs of the mother and to provide support to her birth partner as well.”
