It’s science: Why your baby stops crying when you stand up

October 19, 2018 By Elizabeth

“In the case of standing with babies, the researchers concluded the ‘infant calming response to maternal carrying is a coordinated set of central, motor, and cardiac regulations and is a conserved component of mammalian mother-infant interactions.'”

I have been somewhat less present the last few weeks, and may be a little slow to respond in the upcoming weeks as well. But I have a good excuse… :-) Please excuse the pajama pants, but this is what Doula work at 3-weeks postpartum looks like – matching mommy-baby gray and pink coziness. She is my little space heater and companion while I get a little computer work done, before going back to simply resting and recovering and celebrating this new little life. I will start attending births again in late November, and will only take on 1 – 2 clients a month while she is still super young. However, spots are available starting in the new year if you or someone you know is looking for a doula!

If Only Everyone Had a Postpartum Doula

October 9, 2018 By Elizabeth

“Unlike birth doulas, who assist mothers during pregnancy and childbirth, postpartum doulas step in when the baby is already born, and throughout the first six weeks after birth. They teach the supposedly natural but actually quite difficult to master skills of soothing, bathing and breast-feeding infants, without any personal baggage.”
